Training & Certification Courses ~ 2026
| PURPOSE: | The American Red Cross (ARC) Wilderness & Remote First Aid (WRFA) training course was created for individuals in back-country and similar situations where professional emergency care is over 30 minutes away. The course combines classroom lecture, skills practice, and realistic scenarios to teach assessment, basic and advanced first aid techniques, extended care, transports and evacuations. |
| WHEN & WHERE: | Dates April 10/11 at the Grand Teton Council Krupp Scout Hollow, 688 N 4200 E, Rigby, ID 83442 Overnight accommodations are available, but vary based on location. Contact us if you would like to spend the night. |
| COST: | $80.00 ($120 for non-scouters) |
| PREREQUISITES: | 1) Currently registered with the BSA ($80 Fee); 2) Be at least 14-years-old; 3) Current Adult CPR/AED certification (cards will be checked); 4) Pre-registration & paid course fees. |
| SCHEDULE: | Friday: Check-in at 4:30 PM, Friday evening. Instruction begins promptly at 5:00 PM and will run to 10:30 PM, Friday evening. Dinner will be provided. |
| Saturday: Training will begin at 8:00 AM and will run to 6:30 PM. | |
| MEALS: | Saturday lunch and some snacks provided. Any special diets or extra snacks should be brought with you. Currently there are no health related restrictions but this may change. |
| REGISTRATION: | Because we have to order materials, course participants must register and pay fees, no later than 2 weeks prior to their selected course date. This fee covers meals, manuals and all course materials. The course roster is filled on a “first registered, first reserved” basis. Please ensure that we have your current email address for further correspondence about your specific course. |
| COURSE COMPLETION: | Participants must attend & participate in all activities and instruction, including passing a written test to receive the ARC Wilderness & Remote First Aid certification, which is valid for 2 years. |
| GENERAL ITEMS TO BRING: | 1) Bring season and weather appropriate clothing for outside; as we plan to be outside about a third of the time. You will need to wear comfortable clothing you won’t mind getting dirty or stained, since we will be doing scenarios outdoors and working with moulage (fake blood); |
| 2) Bring raingear & a hat in case it rains or snows and your personal first aid kit; | |
| 3) Bring snacks and a water bottle or hydration system, tablet, pen or pencil; | |
| 4) For outside wilderness first aid scenarios, it's nice to have a backpack that contains: a closed-cell foam sleeping pad, sleeping bag or sleeping bag liner, a small tarp, trekking poles, 15-feet of 1” webbing or 15-feet of parachute cord, and a headlamp or flashlight. (please make certain that all of your equipment is marked/identified); Please do not purchase any of these items just for this class… The class may provide information for future gear selection. | |
| FINAL DETAILS: | Field (Class A) uniforms are encouraged for Friday evening, but are not required. |
| Course Check-in: 4:30 PM, Friday. Instruction begins at 4:50 PM, Friday evening. | |
| Friday training begins: 5:00 PM Friday class goes until 10:30pm on Friday evening and begins again on Saturday at 8:00am and runs all day Saturday to 6:30 PM. Attendance is mandatory through all of the training for certification. | |
| The content in the American Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid training course is based on the 2010 Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines. This Wilderness & Remote First Aid course carefully follows those guidelines. | |
| Prerequisites: | 1) Current Adult CPR/AED certification |
