COURSE OVERVIEW

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides you with the practical outdoor skills you need to lead Scouts outdoors. Upon completion, you should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. The teaching methods, activities, and games model the variety of teaching used in effective and engaging Scouting programs. Along with Scoutmaster Specific Training, this course is required for direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops to be considered “trained."

PREREQUISITES

All participants must complete the following course online (http://my.scouting.org) before attending:

Safeguarding Youth (90 minutes)

DATES

Fall Session: Saturday, September 19, 2026 through Sunday, September 20th, 2026.

Spring Session: Saturday, April 17th, 2027 through Sunday, April 18th, 202

Check-ink in will occur between 8:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. on Saturday morning. Graduation will occur at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.

PACKING LIST

Current BSA Health and Medical Form—Parts A and B (Found Here)
Scouts BSA Handbook
Uniform: Full Class A and Class B / Utility Uniform
Camping Essentials: Pocket Knife, First Aid Kit, Rain Gear, Water Bottle, Flashlight, Matches, Map and Compass, Tent or Hammock, Ground Cloth, Sleeping Bag, and Sleeping Pad.
Mess Kit: Knife, Fork, Spoon, Plate, Bowl, Cup.
Hygiene Kit: Soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Washcloth, Towel, etc.
Personal Extras: Folding Chair, Watch, Pens or Pencils, Notebook, Hat, Sunglasses, Seasonal Clothing.
