COURSE OVERVIEW
Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides you with the practical outdoor skills you need to lead Scouts outdoors. Upon completion, you should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. The teaching methods, activities, and games model the variety of teaching used in effective and engaging Scouting programs. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops to be considered “trained."
PREREQUISITES
All participants must complete the following course online (http://my.scouting.org) before attending:
- Safeguarding Youth (90 minutes)
DATES
Fall Session will be held on Friday, October 3rd, 2025 through Sunday, October 5th, 2025.
Spring Session will be held Friday, March 20th, 2026 through Sunday, March 22nd, 2026.
Class starts promptly at 9:30 AM Saturday and graduation is at 11:00AM on Sunday. Camping on Friday night is not required, but it is available for those wishing to do so.
PACKING LIST
- Current BSA Health and Medical Form—Parts A and B (Found Here)
- Scouts BSA Handbook
- Full Class A Uniform and Class B / Utility Uniform
- Camping Essentials: Pocket Knife, First Aid Kit, Rain Gear, Water Bottle, Flashlight, Matches, Map and Compass, Tent, Ground Cloth, Sleeping Bag, and Sleeping Pad.
- Mess Kit: Knife, Fork, Spoon, Plate, Bowl, Cup.
- Hygiene Kit: Soap, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Washcloth, Towel, etc.
- Personal Extras: Folding Chair, Watch, Pens or Pencils, Notebook, Hat, Sunglasses, Seasonal Clothing.
