Winter Training Weekend 2027 (BALOO/IOLS)
Event Details

IOLS is 2 days one night, BALOO is 2 days one night.
Trainings Offered:
- Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) – Is a one-and-a-half-day course designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities.
- BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the discovery of the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience.
- BALOO training consists of an online pre-requisite component and an overnight practical hands-on component.
- Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack or Webelos den overnighter.
- The online component must be completed prior to attending the practical component; bring the online component completion certificate to the practical component training.

- Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) – is a one-and-a-half-day hands-on course providing adult leaders with the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors.
- Participants will learn first-hand about selecting a campsite, pitching a tent, hiking, outdoor cooking, first aid and leave-no-trace principles.
- Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First-Class rank.
- In conjunction with Scoutmaster Position Specifics training, this course is required for all direct contact leaders registered in Scouts BSA Troops in order to be considered “trained”.
All participants must bring a current copy of the BSA Annual Health Medical Form Parts A & B. You can download a current copy here: BSA Health Form
