What is Cub Scout Day Camp?

Cub Scout Day Camp is the ultimate camp experience for your son or daughter! At Cub Scout Day Camp your Scout will do a variety of activities from crafts and skits to nature walks, even the chance to shoot a bow and arrow! While there are many camp options for your son or daughter this summer, one camp stands out – Cub Scout Day Camp!

Cub Scout day camps are distinct from other summer camps in that they prepare younger children for overnight camping by building their outdoor skillsets. While your seven-year-old may not be ready to head out for a week of camping quite yet, he or she will be prepared to camp with their pack after a few years of Cub Scout day camp. We know your summers are busy (the days of summer “breaks” are long gone). But if you’re looking for a summer camp experience that stands out, make sure day camp is on your list!

Each session runs for consecutive days; however, some camps run during evening hours during the week and have different schedules on Saturday and Sunday. The fees listed cover all days included in the session at that location during that week.

Who can Attend?

All children, male and female, attending 1st through 5th grade in the fall are eligible to attend Greater Tampa Bay Area Council Day Camps. Summer camp eligibility is based on the rank and grade they will be entering in the 2024-2025 school year. Some camps fill up early, and camp availability is not guaranteed.

Tiger Scouts, or children entering 1st grade, must provide their own adult to attend with them or they cannot attend any event with the Boy Scouts of America. This requirement is based on BSA program design and is not subject to the discretion of Greater Tampa Bay Area Council Day Camp leadership. The required adult can be any relative or child caregiver, but they must be at least 18 years of age and responsible for the camper daily. Lion Scouts, or children younger than 1st grade in the fall are not eligible to attend Day Camp programs. Lions are children who are entering Kindergarten in the fall and are not registered with the Boy Scouts of America until July 1st.

Severe Weather Plan

Each Day Camp location will have its own plan for when severe weather strikes. One location we wanted to highlight is Camp Brorein. This Council Camp does not have a dining hall like the others. As a result Cubs attending camp at Brorein should be aware of the following:

Weekday evenings - the plan would be to shelter in cars for a short period of time and if needed send the materials home and allow the Scouts to complete them at home.

For the Saturday - the plan is to have a rain date.

This plan requires parents to stay with their Scouts – i.e. no drop off

What is Required?

All participants must bring a current copy of the BSA Annual Health Medical Record.  You can download a current copy here: https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/ahmr/
