Become a part of the team that helps deliver shooting sports to our Scouts!  

A current NRA instructor who is on the Council Approved Shooting Sports Instriuctor list and current NRA Range Safety Officers (RSO)s are required for a unit to open a shooting sports range at a council property.   For more details visit: https://tampabayscouting.org/camps/camp-facilities-usage.  

All participants must agree to assist the Greater Tampa Bay Area Council, or their home council, by staffing at least 2 Council or District shooting sports events per year for the next 2 years.   

Knowing how to shoot is a requirement for NRA instructors, but you will also need to know how to teach others to shoot. NRA Instructor Training Courses help you develop the knowledge, skills and attitude needed to organize and teach others.  

To become an NRA instructor, you must complete the following:

• Basic Rifle and Shotgun Instruction
• Basic Instructor Training (B.I.T) and Range Safety Officer Training (RSO)
• Rifle and Shotgun Qualifications 
• Rifle and Shotgun Instructor Training

You must successfully complete EVERY session of this series to become an NRA instructor.

Location: Sand Hill Scout Reservation

Time: Friday 7:00 PM - Sunday 4:30 PM 

Cost: 

• Deposit - $50
• Early Bird - $620
• Regular Rate - $675
• Out of Council Fee - $30

In council (GTBAC) Scouters can earn up to $100 in gift cards to the Tampa Scout Shop by helping at events within 2 years of completing the training at $25 an event.

NRA Shotgun Qualification
(you must qualify for accuracy on both rifle and shotgun)

NRA Rifle Basic and Instructor Training
(requires completion of RSO and BIT Training)

Important Notes:

• Registration deadline is two weeks before the course.  No walkups allowed.
• Course size is limited, so register early to guarantee your space
• All participants must be currently registered with the BSA
• All firearms and ammunition are provided.  You may NOT bring your own firearms.
