Become a Level 2 COPE Instructor!

Level 2 COPE Training

Learn how to teach Scouts how to climb and rappel at the Unit, District or Council level.  This training is perfect for leaders interested in becoming Climbing Merit Badge Counselors, Camp Staff and Scouters who want to provide climbing opportunities for their unit.

This course is being done through the collaboration of several BSA Councils: South Florida, Southwest Florida, Gulf Stream, Greater Tampa Bay, Central Florida, and North Florida.

When:  August 23-25, 2024

  • Class starts at 8 AM August 23
  • Class ends at 5 PM August 25

Where: Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation (FASR)

1201 Boy Scout Camp Rd, Lake Wales, FL 33898

Training will cover:

  • Basic knots
  • Artificial Structure Rigging
  • Inspection of Structure
  • Administrative Procedures
  • Emergency Procedures
  • Facilitation and Processing of Groups
  • Belay and Spotting Techniques
  • And MORE.

Course fee includes: Inagural GTBAC COPE Patch and long sleeve dri-fit tee shirt.

Cost:

Early Bird Rate

  • Adult Leader - $105
  • Staff Member - $75
  • Must pay in full by July 26th to recieve Early Bird Rate

Regular Rate 

  • Adult Leader - $130
  • Staff Member - $85
  • Includes course materials, food, and air-conditioned bunkhouses for overnight stay 

Lodging will be avilable for an additional fee for those wishing to stay. 

Prerequisites:

  • Participants must be 21 years of age or over to become Certified
  • Participants must already have completed COPE Level 1 Instructor Training
  • Participants must be currently registered in the BSA and have completed current Youth Protection Training within 2 years
  • Participants must bring a current BSA Annual Health & Medical Record (Parts A & B)

All Participants must bring a current BSA Medical form (download here). 

Registrations should be considered “pending Council approval.” Confirmation will be sent once Event Management makes contact and confirms Council approval.
