The Timucua Chess Day 2024 “The Timucua Gambit” consists of two separate tracks.  Scouts should register for only one of the tracks.

Track One - Chess Merit Badge and Tournament.  Track one is for scouts who want to earn Chess Merit Badge.  It’s an all-day Chess Merit Badge workshop with basic requirements covered in the morning and a tournament in the afternoon.  Scouts can complete all requirements for the badge at this event.

Track Two – Chess Skills Training and Tournament.  Track two is for scouts who’ve already earned Chess Merit Badge.  It’s a chess skills training session in the morning where we’ll cover openings and gambits, mid-game strategies and end-game tactics.  During the morning scouts will compete in practice games and in the afternoon, scouts will play in a tournament. 

There will also be a chess trivia contest and other activities during the day. 

All attendees will receive the event patch and Scouts can win awards for top placements as individuals and units. 

The event is open to all registered Scouts BSA, Sea Scouts or Venturing youth members.
