10 Commandment Hike

Starting Location: Christ the King, 821 S Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33609
A Ten Commandment hike is an interfaith Scouting event where participants walk between different houses of worship to hear religious leaders explain the Ten Commandments and their relevance to daily life. This combines hiking with religious education, community service, and bridge-building between diverse faiths. The plan is for a 2.5 miles in South Tampa.
Key Aspects of the Ten Commandment Hike:
- Purpose: To teach scouts about faith, build understanding between religions, and discuss religious history.
- Structure: Hikers typically visit 8–10 different houses of worship
- Presentations: At each stop, a leader explains one or two of the commandments, often providing a 15–20 minute talk on how it relates to modern life, community, and scouting.
- Activities: The event is a half-day event, $15 for lunch and a patch.
- Outcome: Scouts may earn religious emblems or satisfy requirements for hiking/faith-based awards.
