Spring 2019

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

This fun and educational course introduces participants to the skills needed to plan and conduct group outdoor activities, particularly Cub Scout Pack camping. BSA REQUIRES that at least one adult (a Cub Scout’s parent/guardian or a Pack adult leader) per Pack complete BALOO training in order for the Pack to go on an overnighter (campout). This course is also helpful for parents of scouts who would like to learn the basics of camping.

When:  Friday, March 1, 2019 at 5 PM to Saturday, March 2 at 5 PM (Check-in 4:30 PM-4:50 PM)

Location:    Camp Ithiel in the covered Pool Pavilion 2037 Hempel Ave, Gotha, FL 34734. We will be camping in the field next to the Pavilion, PLEASE BRING A TENT.

Prerequisites – Yep, that means things to do BEFORE the course begins!

Go to http://my.scouting.org and ‘Sign In’ or ‘Create Account’ and then:

1.  Complete Youth Protection Training (course# Y01) if you haven’t already done so.  You do NOT need the Venturing or Exploring versions of this course, just the basic course.

2.  NEW – complete the Online BALOO training.  From the same home page as above, click on “BSA Learn Center” on the right side of the screen.  Then scroll down to “Expanded Learning” and select “BALOO.”  This course is a great introduction to the materials we will be covering in-person.  These modules will take about 35 minutes total.  You MUST complete both the Online Training AND the Classroom Training to be BALOO Certified.

3.  If you are able to do so, please bring Completion Certificates for both YPT and Online BALOO with you to our course.  These can be paper or electronic copies of the certificates.  Thank you!

Bring: Pen & paper for taking notes, water bottle, folding chair, mess kit (utensils, non-metal plate, bowl & cup), and wear your Scouting Uniform if you have it.  Be prepared to learn the basics for Cub Scout Family Camping!

Fee: $28.00 per person or just $25.00 by registering online by 2/25/2018. Includes Food and a flash drive of materials to take home!
