America 250: Liberty in Action

A Pioneer Adventure for Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA

Pack your wagon and journey back to a time when courage, hard work, and community helped shape a young nation!

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA members, and their families are invited to spend the day exploring the Pioneer Settlement for the Creative Arts while working toward completion of the America 250: Liberty in Action program.

Travel through historic cabins, workshops, churches, and homesteads as you discover what life was like on the American frontier. Along the way, you will experience how the founding ideals of our nation—life, liberty, equality, fairness, civic responsibility, and the pursuit of happiness—continue to influence our lives today.

Throughout the adventure, Scouts will participate in hands-on activities inspired by the Liberty in Action requirements, including opportunities to:

Explore the meaning of the Declaration of Independence and discuss how its ideals still guide our communities today.

Discover how Scouting America has strengthened our nation through generations of service, citizenship, and community involvement.

Create a commemorative America 250 keepsake inspired by the pioneer spirit.

Share what freedom, liberty, or civic responsibility means in today’s world.

Experience pioneer-era skills and games that connect us to everyday life on the frontier.

Tour authentic historic buildings and learn how local communities grew alongside our nation.

Participate in a meaningful service project that reflects the values of service, responsibility, and the common good.

As you travel from one historic stop to the next, you will gain a deeper appreciation for the determination, resilience, and cooperation that built both our nation and the communities we call home today.

Whether you are splitting wood, learning a pioneer game, exploring historic buildings, or reflecting on what freedom means in your own life, this event offers a memorable way to celebrate America 250 while honoring the spirit of those who came before us.

Metalwork Merit Badge Opportunity

A special Metalwork Merit Badge program will be offered for Scouts BSA members.

The cost is $60 per Scout and includes:

Supplies and materials needed for the merit badge

Instruction for the Metalwork Merit Badge

Lunch for the participating Scout

The Metalwork Merit Badge program is a separate registration from the America 250: Liberty in Action event. There are only 30 spots available. 

Scouts BSA members who wish to participate in both the Metalwork Merit Badge program and the Liberty in Action activities must register and pay for both programs:

America 250: Liberty in Action: $10 per person

Metalwork Merit Badge: $60 per participating Scout

Registration and Payment

The cost for the America 250: Liberty in Action event is $10 per person, payable to the Pioneer Settlement for the Creative Arts.

The Pioneer Settlement does not accept checks.

To help streamline check-in, payments should be made as a single unit payment at event check-in. Please have one designated unit representative collect your unit’s fees in advance and submit one payment upon arrival.

Meals

Before you hit the trail, be sure to eat breakfast before arriving, as no breakfast will be provided.

Each unit is responsible for providing its own lunch. You are welcome to embrace the pioneer spirit by setting up a campsite and cooking lunch together as a unit, or you may choose the convenience of bringing a packed lunch. Either option is welcome—just be sure everyone is prepared for an enjoyable day of adventure and exploration.

Lunch is included for Scouts BSA members registered for the Metalwork Merit Badge program ONLY.
