Sewing and Needlework Merit Badge Test Lab

Riverside District is offering an opportunity to complete a portion of the Sewing & Needlework Test Lab Merit Badge. Scouts will do the hand sewing portion. A kit will be provided. Scouts should bring in a ziplock bag or other container items that go in a sewing kit: needles, thread, safety pins, etc. It will be up to the Scouts to complete the other requirements and submit the survey to obtain the completion certificate. If Scouts complete a Test Lab badge and it becomes an official merit badge, they will be credited with having earned that badge!
Sewing & Needlework Overview
Sewing is using a needle and thread to make stitches and combine textiles by hand or machine. Needlework is decorative sewing and other textile arts. In this badge, you will investigate several types of sewing and needlework. You will learn basic hand and machine sewing skills and make several small, practical projects using your new skills! These test lab requirements are available for Scouts until August 31, 2026. At that time, these requirements will disappear and the surveys will be closed.
About The Test Lab: Scouts can complete these requirements in order to provide feedback and receive a certificate
You decide if this activity becomes an official Merit Badge of Scouting America. By filling out the survey, you vote for or against this becoming a Merit Badge. You can also suggest changes to make the merit badge more engaging. The fate of this potential merit badge rests in your hands. Come back and complete the survey after you finish the requirements to make your voice heard and to get your certificate of completion.
