Riverside Under Siege is a Medieval Festival open to both Cubs and Scouts BSA.  Scouts will have the opportunity to camp and enjoy the medieval themed games, competitions, and festivities.  Are you ready for an epic competition?  Build your own siege machine and compete as an individual, patrol, den, group, or unit.  Join us as we travel through the mists of time to a forgotten age of devotion, courage, and adventure at Riverside Under Siege. 

Important Notes 

Event signup closes September 23rd and will not be extended.  Exceptions will only be given to individuals in units with school nights after September 23rd.

A complete Parent/Leader Guide will be available September 1st via Black Pug and Facebook

Cubs and Scouts BSA will be camping in separate areas of the Annex

Cubs and Scouts BSA activities will be separated except for shooting sports events.

All scouts must provide their own safety glasses to participate in any shooting sports event.

All scout activities will be scored separately for Cub and Scouts BSA

Units can rent portable toilet for their unit’s use.  Every effort will be made to locate the toilets near the unit’s campsite.  The toilets are rented at cost, $85.

A gate schedule will be posted in the Parent/Leader guide and be strictly enforced.

Campsite power is not available.

All participants must adhere to the rules of Malabar Transmitter Annex.  Failure to follow may result in individuals or units being asked to leave.  Here are a few key notes, see attached for complete list.  It is the responsibility of every individual to know all the rules of the Annex.  Inspection by Patrick Space Force Base can happen without notice.

Open fires, campfires (ground or raised), burn barrels, etc. are not allowed. Deep frying is not allowed.  Camp stoves may be used for food preparation only and must be placed on a table or stand so bottom of grill is 29 inches off the ground.   Raised, standing height, charcoal grilles are allowed. No accelerants (i.e. lighter fluid) are allowed. All ash and unburnt coals must be taken with you and not dumped.  Any other possible source of heat generation that could result in a fire must be approved.  All groups must supply their own current, not expired, fire extinguishers that must be readily available, co-located with each stove/grill, and visible to inspectors.  Cooking without proper fire extinguisher will result in no cooking allowed until proper fire extinguisher is available.

Vehicles are only allowed in authorized areas.  Vehicles will not be allowed to park in campsites.  A plan for getting gear to/from campsites will be detailed in the parent/leader guide.

Zero tolerance for drones, smoking, tobacco use, vaping, drugs, guns, and alcohol at the Annex.  Offenders will be required to leave event immediately.

No pets allowed.  Only ADA service animals as identified by ADA.gov are allowed.  Only dogs are recognized as service animals.  Emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals do not qualify under the ADA as service animals.  All service animals must be always on a leash and be picked up after.  Verification must be done at gate.

SIEGE MACHINE TOURNAMENT

There are two competition categories, 5-foot Traction Trebuchet and 1-foot Catapults.  See attached rules for each category. 

All siege machines must follow the Safety and Construction Rules for their specific category. 

All supplies are provided by the competitors and must be brought with you to the event.

All participants must provide their own safety glasses. 

Projectiles will be provided at the event.

On September 18th, in coordination with Riverside NOVA, teams will be able to test their 5-foot Traction Trebuchets at the Annex.  Cub Scouts can also participate in the NOVA Swing event and learn about levers and build a personal 1-foot catapult to use at the competition.  Details will be provided later with a separate signup.

The committee is also working on a 1-foot catapult kit that will be available for purchase.  More information to come.
