IOLS TRAINING- SPRING 2020
Osceola District invites you to participate in Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS), a fun-filled program of hands-on skills training in the outdoors, designed to help you master basic camp skills.
This course is for all new Troop level scouters or scouters planning to cross with their Cubs in to a Troop unit. Every outdoor overnight event requires at least 2 IOLS trained leaders. Completing this course will certify you as one of these leaders.
We will spend the weekend under the Spanish moss draped oaks at Southport Park, on the south end of Lake Toho in Kissimmee, Florida on February 8-9, 2020.You will learn how to set up camp, cook, and work with woods tools, and ropes and knots, planning campfire programs, map reading and compass skills, hiking and packing techniques, nature identification, and outdoor ethics. And most importantly you will learn how to pass these skills to your scouts and other leaders in your unit.
Each outdoor session will bring to life the pages of the Boy Scout Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to the youth you serve. The program will also give you the opportunity to make new friends, get to know other Scout leaders from your area, and reinforce skill techniques with fellow unit leaders.
