Timuqua District Fall BALOO & IOLS Training Weekend

Fall is calling — and the outdoors is the best classroom!

As the weather cools and camping season gets underway, join Timuqua District for a fall weekend in the outdoors filled with hands-on learning, campfires, practical skills, and fellowship.

Two separate courses will be offered during the weekend: BALOO and IOLS. Participants will register for and attend the course that best fits their Scouting program and leadership role.

BALOO

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation

Get your Pack ready for its next camping adventure!

BALOO is designed for Cub Scout leaders and adults who want to help their Pack provide safe, fun, and memorable overnight camping experiences.

During this hands-on outdoor course, participants will learn skills including:

Planning a Cub Scout camping program
Outdoor cooking
Campfire planning
Health and safety
Camping equipment
Outdoor ethics
Age-appropriate outdoor activities
Important BALOO Prerequisite

BALOO has required online prerequisite training that must be completed before attending the in-person course.

Participants should complete the required BALOO prerequisite modules in My.Scouting and bring proof of completion.

Remember: At least one BALOO-trained adult must be present on a Cub Scout Pack overnight camping activity.

IOLS

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

Build your outdoor skills while spending a fall weekend at camp!

IOLS is designed primarily for Scouts BSA adult leaders and provides practical, hands-on experience with many of the outdoor skills Scouts learn on their journey through the program.

Participants will practice skills such as:

Campsite selection and setup
Outdoor cooking
Knots and lashings
Woods tools
Fire building
Navigation
Plant and animal identification
Leave No Trace
Other essential outdoor Scouting skills

IOLS helps leaders gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to support Scouts as they learn to become capable and independent outdoor leaders.

Two Courses. One Fall Training Weekend.

BALOO and IOLS are separate classes. Participants should register for the course that matches their position and training needs.

Spend a crisp October weekend around the campfire, sharpen your outdoor skills, meet other Scouting leaders, and head home better prepared to create great outdoor experiences for your Scouts.
