Start your engines! The Western Shore District Pinewood Derby is back, and it’s shaping up to be our fastest, most exciting race yet. Whether you’re a Cub Scout chasing district glory or a lifelong tinkerer who just loves the thrill of the track, there’s a division for you.

This event celebrates creativity, STEM skills, craftsmanship, and good sportsmanship—all wrapped up in the classic Pinewood Derby excitement we know and love.

Racing Divisions

 Cub Scout Divisions

For Scouts who are ready to put their best build on the district stage!

Pack Winner Division

This is the championship showdown!

• Open to 1st-place finishers from each rank (Lion through AOL) at the Pack level
• Each Pack may enter one car per rank (up to six total)
• Cars race for speed awards, plus design awards judged by a panel
• A special Best in Show may also be awarded

If you won your Pack race, this is your moment—come race the best of the best!

Open Cub Scout Division

Didn’t place first at your Pack race? No problem!

• Open to any registered Cub Scout
• Same awesome district track, same big cheers, same chance at glory

This division is all about participation, fun, and seeing how your car stacks up at the district level.

Note: 5th-grade Scouts who bridged to Scouts BSA since September 1, 2025 are welcome in both Cub Scout divisions.

 Outlaw Divisions

For builders who just can’t stop racing…

Open Outlaw Youth

• Open to all youth under 18
• No Scouting registration required
• Push the limits of design and engineering (safely!)

Open Outlaw Adult

• Open to anyone 18 and over
• Parents, leaders, alumni—this is your chance to show the kids how it’s done (or learn from them!)

Outlaw divisions are all about fun, creativity, and lifelong learning—and may be combined depending on participation.

What to Know Before You Register

• One car per participant, per division
• Proxy racers are allowed (cars may be raced by a Pack representative)
• All cars must pass district inspection
• Good sportsmanship is expected—we’re racing hard, but playing fair
