Washington, D.C. District Service 2026 - Arlington National Cemetery

Join Scouts and Scouters from the Washington, DC District and volunteers from GE Aerospace for a unique service project helping to gather and dispose of Christmas wreaths laid at some of the over 400,000 grave markers in our nation's most famous national cemetery, Arlington National Cemetery.
Date: Saturday, 10 January 2026
Time: 8:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.
Meeting place: Military Women's Memorial (at the end of Memorial Avenue)
Arrive on time for brief remarks before entering Arlington National Cemetery and proceeding to the service location.
Additional Details / Considerations:
- Dress warmly. Expect very cold weather.
- Bring work gloves, water, comfortable walking shoes, and appropriate gear.
- No tools with metal heads allowed (e.g., rakes, hoes, shovels, etc.). Brooms, PVC pipes, and ropes are encouraged (but not necessary) to assist in gathering more wreaths at a time.
- Anticipate crowds. Very limited parking is available on streets nearby the Marine Corps Memorial, which will require a ~¼ mile walk to the meeting location.
- Riding public transit is encouraged. Use the Metro Blue Line Arlington National Cemetery stop and walk west from there to the Military Women's Memorial.
- All participants will be subject to security screening while entering the cemetery. Prohibited items include: large bags or backpacks, firearms and weapons of any type, laser pointers, aerosol containers, soda cans, coolers, picnic baskets, tripods, lighters, screwdrivers (or similar tools), air horns, personal protection sprays, and insulated beverage containers. Clear plastic water bottles are permitted.
