Accotink Bay District Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS)
Note that there will be no separate classroom session; only the overnight session at Gunston Hall.
WHO: Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Crew Advisors, Associate Crew Advisors who need to complete their program-specific training requirements, as well as those other adult volunteers who want to help with the outdoor program activities and basic advancement skills. Order of preference: Accotink Bay (formerly Colonial) District, Virginia Central, NCAC; request for deviation, contact Dominick Caridi.
WHAT: Instruction designed to hone outdoor skills will use the Patrol methods. It will focus on safety & risk, unit structure, event planning, camping, Scout craft skills, Outdoor Ethics, and outdoor cooking. Partially fulfills the training requirements for Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Venture Crew Advisor, and Assistant Venture Crew Advisor positions.
WHEN: Weekend Session starts at 10:30 am, Saturday and runs through 3:30 pm, Sunday.
COURSE FEE: $25.00 to cover course costs to be paid at on-line registration
Note there are prerequisites for the IOLS course!
All participants must have current YPT certification.
FOR IOLS Certification:
- Current certification in Hazardous Weather
- We strongly urge that you take this opportunity to update all the Safety Modules, especially:
- Safety Afloat
- Safe Swim Defense
These trainings are all available online at my.scouting.org under the "My Training" tab.
Participants must provide documentation of completing the online courses. This can be done by presenting the certificates provided upon course completion OR providing other documentation that you have already completed the courses and hold current certifications.
OTHER REQUIRED PAPERWORK:
All participants must complete the BSA-Medical-Form-A&B (no physician’s signature is required). This Medical form should be brought to the campout; do not email. NO PAPERWORK = NO TRAINING
