Accotink Bay District Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) for
Scouts BSA Leaders

Note, there will be no separate classroom session; only the overnight session at location listed on registration.

WHO:  Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Crew Advisors, Associate Crew Advisors who need to complete their program-specific training requirements, as well as those other adult volunteers who want to help with the outdoor program activities and basic advancement skills. This training is intended for those delivering or supporting the Scouts BSA program. IOLS is not required for Cub Scout leaders and does not satisfy the Cub Scout requirement to lead a Cub Scout overnight campout.  If you are interested in that training, you should register for BALOO at https://scoutingevent.com/082-baloofall26.

WHAT:  Instruction designed to hone outdoor skills will use the Patrol methods. It will focus on safety & risk, unit structure, event planning, camping, Scout craft skills, Outdoor Ethics, and outdoor cooking. Partially fulfills the training requirements for Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Venture Crew Advisor, and Assistant Venture Crew Advisor positions.

WHEN: Weekend Session starts at 8:30 am, Saturday and runs through 3:30 pm, Sunday.

COURSE FEE:  $35

Prerequisites

All participants must have current Safeguarding Youth Training/YPT certification.

For IOLS Certification you must have current certifications in:
        • Scoutmaster Specific Training (SST),
        • Hazardous Weather,
        • Safety Afloat, and
        • Safe Swim Defense.

These trainings are all available online at my.scouting.org under the "My Training" tab.

Participants must provide documentation showing completion of the online courses. This can be done by downloading a copy of your training record from my.scouting and sending it to the course director OR sending the course director copies of the certificates provided upon course completion.

OTHER REQUIRED PAPERWORK:
All participants must submit a copy of the IOLS Data Form you receive with your course Welcome Letter by the due date and complete the Scouting America Health and Medical Record parts A&B (no physician’s signature is required). This Medical form should be brought to the campout; do not email. NO PAPERWORK = NO TRAINING
