FSK IOLS/BALOO Training Spring 2019

Event Details

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

The Francis Scott Key District would like to invite you to participate in Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills, a fun-filled program of interactive skills training in the outdoors.  It is designed to help you master basic camping skills required for Tenderfoot to First Class. We will also include BALOO training.

Throughout the weekend, instructors will help you learn how to set-up camp, cook, work with wood tools, about ropes, how to plan a campfire program, map reading and compass skills, hiking and packing techniques, nature identification and outdoor ethics.  Each outdoor session will bring to life the pages of the Boy Scout Handbook to help you deliver the promise of Scouting to yourself and the youth you serve.  It will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader.  The program also gives you the opportunity to work with other Scout leaders from the district, meet Scouters who have been where you are, and reinforce skill techniques with fellow unit leaders.

When is the course:

May 17 - 19, 2019.  Course starts at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17.

Where is it being held:

Walkersville Watershed.  Nearest address is 9031 Chestnut Grove Rd, Frederick, MD 21701

Who should attend:

Any adult leader who works closely with Scouts (usually Asst. Scoutmasters) who are not fully trained yet.

Adult leaders are considered fully trained and can wear the Trained patch, when they have completed:

Youth Protection Training (YPT)
Position Specific Training (either online or in person)
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) Training

Cost:       $35.00 / person

How do I sign-up:

Register via the NCAC website. Deadline to sign-up is May 3, 2019.

The IOLS course can be found on the Training menu located at: https://www.ncacbsa.org/training/

Before the weekend of the training, you will be assigned to a patrol.  Together, you will plan your meals, buy your food, and work out logistics for gear, if needed.  You will choose a patrol name and cheer, make a flag and get to know your new patrol members.  To better deliver the program, we ask that all patrol members arrive at the same time.
