Solar Eclipse 2017

Event Details

NOTICE: This event is full and regrettably we will not be able to allow any walk-ins. We regret to turn friendly scouts and scouters away, however unfortunately the waitlist already far exceeds the capacity of this event. *

We still hope that your scouts have a wonderful eclipse viewing day, and recommend planning an event with your unit/family. This list posts other local Eclipse events. You can also refer to this NASA Guide of awesome activities, and see BSA’s Eclipse page for how to earn the patch. Please note that patches must be preordered through the Scout Stores.

*Note to those on the waitlist: you will receive an email no later than 8/9 to inform you if a spot opened up. Thank you all very much for your interest, and we hope everyone who we could not welcome finds a wonderful alternative event!

Have you heard about the solar eclipse that will occur on August 21, 2017?

NCAC is hosting a viewing party at Camp Snyder from 11AM - 3:30PM on Monday, August 21.

Cubs, Boy Scouts & Venturers will all earn the unique BSA Solar Eclipse 2017 patch as well as a few other souvenirs from this event! Read ahead about the requirements for the Eclipse patch here: http://www.scouting.org/eclipse2017.aspx

The peak eclipse viewing time in Haymarket, VA is expected around 2:40 PM, however we will have astronomy related activities for youth throughout the day.

Cub Scouts will get a solar viewer for safe viewing, make a pinhole projector, experiment with solar photography, learn about astronomy and even launch rockets!

Boy Scouts & Venturers are invited to register as Staff; you will help run the Cubs activity stations as well as participate in some of your own to earn the Eclipse patch too!  Venturers & Sea Scouts should come prepared to discuss requirement c) Research Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington’s 1919 experiment.
