2022 WOD Annual District Awards Dinner

Event Details

White Oak District Annual Award Dinner

Who:  All adult volunteers involved in the White Oak District. Awardees, guests and family are welcome, but please register in advance for a clear headcount.

Why: EVERY UNIT SHOULD RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING SCOUTERS IN THEIR UNIT! See information below on how to nominate an outstanding adult leader. Note that nominations are due no later than May 17!

What:  A night to reflect on the past year of scouting in the district and recognize those volunteers who have made an amazing impact on the lives of the youth they serve.

This year's event will be a potluck. Please sign up for a category during registration. Each dish should feed between 4 and 6 people.

Where: The Church of Christ at Manor Woods, 5300 Norbeck Road, Rockville, MD 20853

When: Tuesday, May 24, 6 pm to 9 pm. The program starts promptly at 7 pm.

Cost: No cost this year for the event.

The Award Ceremonies will include:

Recognition of the White Oak Silver Beaver Awardees Mary Abe and Jeffrey Myers

Presentation of the awards for the District Award of Merit

  • Nomination deadline has passed for this award. Awardees to be announced at the District Dinner

Presentation of the Commissioner Awards, (The Sheet Bend Knot for linking Units and District together).

  • Recipients are selected by the Unit Commissioners.

Scouter of the Year
This award recognizes outstanding effort and success in one or more events in the current Scout year.

  • Individual selected by the District Committee.

Spark Plug Awards 
Awarded to a few individuals (Unit or District) who’s energy and dedication to the District’s Program has helped make it a success. 

  • Recipients selected by the District Committee

KEY Three Award  
Presented to an Individual Selected by the District Key Three for outstanding work in the District.

Distinguished Scouter Award
One scouter selected by the District Key 3 and awards committee for their years of service and unselfish dedication to Scouting.

Oak Tree Awards will be presented to those Units that have not only been successful within their units but also have supported the District in its Activities. UNITS THAT WANT TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS AWARD NEED TO DOWNLOAD AND COMPLETE THE ATTACHMENT. Note, there is one form for Cub Scout Units and one for Scout Units (including Posts and Crews). Return to John Wnek WhiteOakAdv@aol.com no later than May 17 for consideration. Please CC: Mike Holder, thedukeholder@verizon.net since he is assisting John with the program.

  • Recipients selected are by the District Committee.
     

Presentation of the Outstanding Unit Scouter Awards, (the Bowline Knot, Holding things together). UNITS SEND IN NOMINATIONS BY MAY 17

  • Recipients of this award are selected by their Unit’s Key three Leadership
  • Each Unit may select one or two of their registered Scouters other than the Committee Chair, Scoutmaster, Cubmaster or Venture Advisor.
  • This is a one time award for a person in the Unit.
  • Make your selections now and submit them in an e-mail including Name, position, Unit number, email address and a brief sketch of their activities.
  • Send the e-mail to WhiteOakAdv@aol.com before May 17  with “Bowline” in the Subject Line. Please CC: Mike Holder, thedukeholder@verizon.net since he is assisting John with the program.
  • Let them know they have been selected so they can signup for the dinner and receive their award there.
     

Acorn Award

  • This award is presented to a few Unit Scouts/Cubs or Crew Members who have demonstrated outstanding compliance with the Scout Oath and Law throughout the Year.
  • If the Unit Key Three feel they have a scout they wish to nominate, provide a recommendation write up covering the Scout achievements and deeds.
  • Send it to WhiteOakAdv@aol.com with “Acorn Award" in the Subject line no later than May 17. Please CC: Mike Holder, thedukeholder@verizon.net since he is assisting John with the program.
  • Entries will be reviewed and selected by the Advancement Committee.

JTE All Units receiving the Journey to Excellence Gold Award will be recognized at the Dinner

Unit Leaders

  • Please make your selection for Outstanding Unit Scouter and submit them as instructed above. 
  • Also,  If you feel that you would like to recommend a scouter for one of the other Awards please write them up and send it to WhiteOakAdv@aol.com no later than May 17! Please CC: Mike Holder, thedukeholder@verizon.net since he is assisting John with the program.

UNITS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR INFORMING RECIPIENTS OF UNIT LEVEL AWARDS! 

  • Encourage other members of your unit to attend and recognize outstanding unit, district and council award winners.
  • Please include the email address of the nominee for all awards so we can contact them prior to the event.
