STEM Scouts

STEM Scouts tinker, explore and get creative doing hands-on activities in biweekly Lab meetings and occassional field trips. They try new things as they work with others, lead teams, communicate results and work with people in STEM careers.

This is a co-ed program! STEM Scouts was designed by scientists from Oak Ridge National Laboratory to prepare girls and boys for a future of STEM literacy. Each year, we have 20 hands-on activities and accompanying kits for 5 modules or themes for youth in grades 3-5, and youth in grades 6-8 to explore together in Labs. 

When/Where do we meet?

The Lab will meet in-person with about 2 meetings/month.

•  Elementary grades 3-5 | meeting times are Tuesdays 7:30 - 8:30pm
  • location is Rocky Run Elementary School in Fredericksburg, VA
  • the spring semester begins on 2/13
• Middle School grades 6-8 | meeting times are Fridays 7:30 - 8:30pm
  • location is Conway Elementary School in Fredericksburg, VA
  • the spring semester begins on 3/1

This is a volunteer-led program

• All families should plan to volunteer in some capacity! In the registration, you will be able to select how you'd like to volunteer - whether you're comfortable as a STEM module instructor, classroom helper, or field trip planner. It's a fun program! 
   
• Parents/guardians, please complete this one-hour online Youth Protection Training prior to March 1. You will create an account, and receive a PDF certificate upon completion. Pleaes forward that to 082stem@gmail.com

• We are currently offering open enrollment for this spring semester, 2 modules or 8 meetings with a fee of $115 which covers all activity materials and reigstration for your youth.
