Event Details

The George Mason and Patriot Districts are pleased to offer BALOO and IOLS outdoor leader training. Please note that while these courses are running concurrently, you can only sign up for one of them.

IOLS or Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

IOLS is a hands on adult training that covers the skills needed to help guide scouts in the Scouts, BSA program through ranks up to first class. The training is open to adults interested in learning about how the Scouts BSA program works or will be working with youth teaching those skills, but it is required to be considered trained for SMs and ASMs.

This course will run Saturday morning through noon on Sunday.

BALOO or Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation

BALOO is the Cub Scout leader training required for any Cub Scout den or pack outdoor event, including pack camping overnighters and Webelos den overnighters.  The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Cub Scout Leader Book and focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences.

This course will run from Saturday morning to Sunday late morning.

Cost: The registration fee is $35 and covers camping fees, training materials, and food.  Participants will be formed into patrols on site.  Overnight camping is part of the instruction and course.  Participants MUST attend the entire course to successfully complete the training.
