Scouters!
As you know, the Scouts BSA program emphasizes outdoor skills and adventures. Whether it’s a weekend campout, a challenging hike, or a skills-based activity, the outdoors is where Scouts learn, grow, and thrive. To lead these activities effectively, adult leaders need a strong foundation in outdoor skills, and that’s why we have Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills or IOLS.
Why take the training for IOLS?
IOLS is the required training course for all Scouts BSA leaders. It’s a requirement for any adult leader to be considered fully trained for their role in a Scouts BSA troop. Without IOLS, leaders cannot be officially recognized as trained, which limits their ability to support the troop’s outdoor program fully.
- Skill Mastery: You’ll learn essential skills like knot tying, campsite setup, first aid, and using a map and compass — all skills needed to help Scouts advance from Tenderfoot to First Class.
- Expert Guidance: The course is led by experienced instructors who bring years of Scouting knowledge and practical outdoor experience, providing you with valuable tips and insights.
- Networking and Growth: IOLS is an incredible opportunity to meet fellow Scouters, share stories, and learn from others' experiences. The connections you make can help you grow within the Scouting movement and provide support as you continue your leadership journey.
What are the benefits for you and your Scout Troop?
- Full Leader Training: Completing IOLS requires full training as a Scout's BSA leader, which allows you to effectively support your troop’s program.
- Confidence in Outdoor Leadership: You’ll gain the confidence to lead Scouts in outdoor activities, knowing you have the skills and knowledge to handle various situations.
- Community and Support: By attending IOLS, you’ll join a network of Scouters who are passionate about the outdoors and eager to share their experiences and knowledge.
Investing your time in IOLS is crucial for your personal growth and the success of your troop. It’s a requirement for being a fully trained leader and an amazing opportunity to learn new skills, build lasting connections, and become a more effective guide for our Scouts. Join us for IOLS, and let’s work together to deliver an outstanding outdoor program that helps our Scouts reach their full potential.
