Scouters!

Outdoor adventures, from camping trips to nature hikes, are fundamental to Cub Scouting. These experiences are where the magic of Scouting happens: friendships are formed, skills are learned, and memories are made. But to ensure these activities are safe, fun, and well-organized, we need trained leaders. That’s where BALOO—Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation—comes in.

Why take the training for BALOO?

BALOO is the essential training course for any adult who wants to lead a Pack’s outdoor activities. But every Cub Scout leader needs to know: A BALOO-trained leader is required at every Cub Scout pack overnight campout. If your Pack wants to camp, you must have at least one adult with BALOO training present.

  • Safety and Preparation: BALOO covers all the critical aspects of planning a safe and successful camping experience, from site selection to emergency procedures.
  • Hands-On Learning with Experienced Instructors: You’ll gain practical skills like campfire safety, outdoor cooking, and setting up a proper campsite, all taught by experienced instructors who bring real-world Scouting expertise.
  • Opportunities to Connect: BALOO is not just about gaining skills; it’s a chance to meet other Scouters, share experiences, and learn from one another, helping you grow in the Scouting movement.

What are the benefits for you and your Pack?

  • Required for Pack Camping: With BALOO training, you can lead your Pack on overnight campouts and ensure compliance with BSA policies.
  • Leadership Confidence: You’ll develop the skills and confidence needed to create a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience for Cub Scouts.
  • Community Building: You’ll connect with other leaders, share knowledge, and build friendships with them to support you throughout your Scouting journey.

BALOO training is an essential part of being a prepared Cub Scout leader. It’s not only required for Pack campouts but also a fantastic way to enhance your skills, meet other Scouters and build the confidence needed to lead outdoor adventures. Sign up for BALOO today and help create unforgettable experiences for our Cub Scouts — while ensuring your Pack is always ready for the next camping trip.

This is an outdoor overnight camping activity. Participants need to bring their tent and camping equipment. Family members and people from the same Unit may be assigned to different Patrols and may preclude the sharing of camping gear.
