Please Note: UAS Academy will offer additional sessions in Spring 2020. We are looking at some weekend options for Spring 2020, and will announce the dates here as soon as they are confirmed. Please join the waitlist if you'd like to be notified of upcoming sessions.

Here’s the basics:

Ground School and Flight Schools can be taken together or only one this time around.  To take flight school, they need to either have a FAA Remote Pilot Certificate that is valid, or have taken Ground School with us.

Flight School:

4-5 DEC from 0830 to 1630 both days. At Camp Snyder, in Haymarket, VA.

Advance Intel:

  • Stay at the Marriott property in Gainesville, VA if looking for a local hotel.
  • Plan to bring a lunch all 4 days.
  • We hold the courses rain or shine.  Expect both.  And cold.
  • Start at 0830, end at 1630 all 4 days.  No late in or out early allowed.
  • We will provide all the materials needed, and will email you advance study materials too (not much).

RSVP: If interested in the Dec 2-3 or Dec 4-5 courses, sign-up on the right column of this page ( https://www.scoutingevent.com/082-LASRcourse ). UAS will reach out to you to confirm your spot within 3-4 days.  The course is free, but spaces are limited.

Bonus:

UAS Academy will offer internships (paid) to be conducted at Camp Snyder’s STEM Program for those who finish the program this time.  They will have at least 8 hrs/wk through the winter on weekends, and will be first in line for summer internships served at Camp Snyder & in the DC metro area.

Additional Information:

This course is based on the Federal Aviation Administration’s Remote Pilot Certificate – Small Unmanned Aircraft System rating test that leads to the RPC-sUAS credential.

The UAS Academy played an important role in the development of this course. Instructor-led classroom course with extensive skill development in Airspace; Navigation; Charts; Aeronautical Decision Making; Crew Resource Management; Meteorology; Aerodynamics; and Physics of Flight. Based on a combination of the FAA Test Guide and FAR 107 Advisory Circular 107-2, 98 percent of the participants pass the FAA Remote Pilot Certificate UAG Exam on their first attempt.

In order to get a Remote Pilot Certificate – Small UAS rating and begin flying a small UAS you need a pilot certificate, a TSA background check, and meet the health and age requirements.
