Bull Run District - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

Outdoor skills are critical to the success of the Scouting program. Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) provides adult leaders with the basic outdoor skills and information needed to run an safe, fun, and effective family camping and outdoor program for their Cub Scout unit. BALOO training is comprised of two components – an online component and a practical, hands-on component.
The online pre-requisite must be completed prior to the practical training, takes about 60 minutes, and is available at this link: https://my.scouting.org/
Training Location: Camp William B Snyder
When: June 1-2, 2019 (Saturday & Sunday)
Check-In: 8:00 AM Saturday
Start: 9:00 AM Saturday
End: 11:00 AM Sunday
Cost: $40 (includes all meals, starting with lunch on Saturday)
Pre-Registration is Required, No Walk-Ins will be Allowed. Limit of 32 attendees.
Note: This training now includes the Outdoors Skills for Webelos Component required to take Webelos on Den Camping trips.
BALOO training is conducted using the Patrol Method, participants will be assigned to Dens and expected to elect a Denner and Assistant Denner, which are the Cub Scout equivalents of a Patrol, Patrol Leader, and Assistant Patrol Leader.
Each Den will camp together as a unit in their area of the campsite. Since family members and persons from the same scout unit may be assigned to different Dens each person should be prepared with their own camping gear, including tent.
Your BSA Medical Form A&B is required for this event and must be turned in at check in, with an on-line training completion report.
This is a uniformed event, please wear your Field Uniform and bring an Activity Uniform t-shirt. Attendees may use the Camp Snyder platform tents or bring their own tent.
