Burke Lake District: Cub-O-Ree

Event Details

The Cub Scout “Adventure Day”/Cub-O-Ree will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 4-5, 2025, and will feature all the events Cub Scouts enjoy including BB Gun Rifle Marksmanship, Archery, Climbing Wall, Gaga Ball, STEM and Sling Shoot Shooting.  The event is open to all Cub Scouts, family members and potential recruits.  Cub Packs are encouraged to use this event as a recruiting event and invite perspective youth who may want to join Cub Scouts.  Youth do not need to be registered Scouts to attend this event.  Additionally, we will show a “Movie Under the Stars” at sunset. The event will take place at Camp Snyder.

Saturday’s schedule is:

Time                     Activity

9 AM                    On-site Check-in begins at the Hylton Center front porch

9:45                      Opening Ceremony

10 AM – 1 PM    Morning Activities

1-1:30 PM           Lunch (Unit or Family provided)

1:30-4:30 PM     Afternoon Activities

4:30-7 PM           Open, Dinner, Campsite set-up

8-9:30 PM           “Movie under the Stars”

At check-in Scouts will be assigned to groups based on their Pack, Den, or Family.  They will receive their schedule based on their group.  Each Scout must attend as part of a Pack, Den, or Family.  The District Staff does not have the capability to supervise individual Cub Scouts.  Each Pack, Den or Family must bring lunch for their group.

The uniform for youth attending is the Cub Scout Class B or similar clothing.  The class B uniform is a Scout or unit “T” shirt with long or short pants or a skort and hat.  Youth attending as guests that are not scouts can wear similar regular clothes.  All youth must wear enclosed shoes such as sneakers or other solid footwear.  Youth cannot wear sandals or clogs.  All youth need to bring a water bottle.

Packs or families that would like to camp over Saturday night will be able to do so.  Camp sites include access to bath houses that have separate facilities for adult males and females and separate youth facilities for boys and girls.  Camp sites also include a pavilion with picnic tables, and a fire pit.   Packs, Dens, or families that are camping need to bring their own tents, sleeping bags, cooking equipment and food.  Each family needs to bring a solid garbage bag and carry their trash home for disposal.  There is a Walmart and several fast-food restaurants less than five miles away in the town of Haymarket.  On Sunday morning, Packs, Dens, or families can depart at any time by checking out with their camp site Commissioner.  Everyone must depart prior to 11 AM.

Traffic control and parking.  As you enter Camp Snyder, there is a large parking lot to the left.  You can park there and then walk to the Hylton Center porch for check in. For scouts that are camping, drivers can drive to their assigned campsite and drop off gear. We request that you drop off the gear quickly and then return to the large parking lot.  There is no long-term parking allowed at campsites.

The cost for youth, ages five to eleven who are attending Adventure Day is twenty-one dollars ($21) or twenty-six dollars ($26) if they are camping overnight.  The cost for anyone over eleven that is attending for the day to include parents, is eight dollars ($8) and if they are camping overnight, it is ten dollars ($10).  Children four and under are free for the day and camping.   All staff, both adults and Scouts BSA, are requested to register using Black Pug.   The cost is free for staff that are day only, and ten dollars ($10) if you are camping overnight.

The projected weather for the weekend is warm and dry so we should have a great Adventure Day and campout.  Should the weather forecast change, an official weather decision will be made by Thursday night, October 2, 2025, by 5 PM and registered participants will be notified of any changes or cancellation.
