NCAC STEM: Cooking Merit Badge
Event Overview
NCAC STEM is hosting an event for Scouts BSA to earn the Cooking merit badge on Saturday, February 8th!
They will host the event at Camp William B. Snyder, Haymarket, VA.
Who can attend? Scouts BSA.
Class Overview
The class balances instruction with hands-on time so the Scouts BSA can gain practical experience with cooking.
Event Schedule
The session will run from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM
COOKING
The STEM program will highlight the Science of Cooking and the workshop will include demonstrations on knife skills, meal presentation, and Dutch oven cooking as well as other basic cooking skills. A lunch and Dutch oven dessert will be prepared by the Scouts during the workshop. Adults are welcome to stay and learn as well! We especially need adults skilled in Dutch oven cooking to help monitor the DOs while the Scouts are doing other activities.
Prerequisites: Scouts should complete requirements 2c, 4a, 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b prior to the workshop. These requirements will be discussed during the workshop, so in order to get credit they must be completed prior to the 8th. It is recommended each Scout obtain and read a copy of the Cooking Merit badge book prior to the workshop.
Workshop: Will cover requirements 1, 2, 3, 4b, 5c, 5h, 6c, and 7.
Requirements 4c, 4d, 4e, 5d, 5e, 5f, 5g, 6d, 6e, and 6f can either be completed prior to or after the workshop in coordination with the counselor.
