NCAC STEM: Nuclear Science Merit Badge 2024

Event Overview
NCAC STEM is hosting an event for Scouts BSA to earn the Nuclear Science merit badge!
The event take place at Sally's STEM Shack at Camp William B. Snyder, Haymarket, VA, on November 9th, 2024, from 9 AM to 3 PM.
Who can attend? Scouts BSA ages 11-18.
Class Overview
Earn the Nuclear Science Merit Badge! Through discussions and interactive lessons, Scouts will learn about atomic structures, radioactive decay, nuclear reactions, the applications and uses of nuclear technologies, and safety measures associated with nuclear science.
Prerequisites
7. Give an example of each of the following in relation to how energy from an atom can be used: nuclear medicine, environmental applications, industrial applications, space exploration, and radiation therapy. For each example, explain the application and its significance to nuclear science.
8. Find out about three career opportunities in nuclear science that interest you. Pick one and find out the education, training, and experience required for this profession and discuss this with your counselor. Tell why this profession interests you.

Uniforms: SBSA may wear Class A uniform.

Directions and Parking: Camp William B. Snyder is located at 6100 Antioch Road, Haymarket, VA 20169. See attached map for directions to Sally’s STEM Shack. Parking is available to the right of the building.
Registration Fee: Early Bird registration (deadline October 25), $35; Regular registration (deadline November 4), $40; Late registration (deadline November 8) $45.
Check in begins at 8:30 AM!
Merit Badge Completion/Follow-Up/What to Expect: Blue cards will be provided.
