Can I register on my own, or must the Pack register as a unit?

Speed and Show - One Pack Representative from each pack is responsible to register all cars for the Pack. No individual registrations will be accepted.

Open Race - Individual registrations are allowed.

Registration Categories: (each car may be registered into one category only)

Speed - Packs may enter 1 car per den and larger packs with multiple dens per age group can send 1 car for each age group (for example, if a pack has 3 Tiger dens they can send 3 for the tigers).

Show - Packs may enter 5 overall winners per pack, plus 2 cars per den for show.

Open Race - Anyone (other Cub Scouts, Scout BSA, dad, sister, etc.) may enter a car for the open race.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When must cars be taken to American Legion Post 176?

Speed and Show - A Pack Representative from each participating pack brings all of their pack’s cars for the derby to Post 176 on Friday, March 5th between 5:00pm and 7:30pm. Cars in the speed competition will compete in heat times that will be announced after check in concludes on Friday, so that Scouts and their families can come on Saturday, April 6th, at the times of their heats to watch their car race.  The Pack Representative should be present for the entire duration of the race and will take their Pack's cars and awards home with them.

Open Race - Cars may be delivered to American Legion Post 176 on Friday, April 5th from 5:00pm - 7:30pm.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will there be other activities or food available the day of the race?

Food will be available for purchase.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will there be trophies?

Speed - trophies will be given for each Speed race by den for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. There will also be trophies for the championship Speed race for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. No car will receive more than one trophy. For instance, if the 1st Place Bear Den winner comes in 3rd in the championship Speed race, they will get the 3rd Place championship trophy only.

Show - A trophy will be given for the best in each category:

  • Best Race Car Design
  • Best Military Design
  • Best Scout Spirit Design
  • Most Innovative Design
  • Most Humorous Design .

Open Race - Trophies will be given based on place.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are there rules for cars?

Yes, the official rules must be followed in order to be in the Speed or Show categories - see attachment. If your car is not passed as compliant with the rules, it can still be raced in the Open Race category.

While we strongly encourage every car participates in both speed and show at the Pack level, a car must choose to participate in speed OR show at the district level. A SCOUT CAN ONLY COMPETE WITH ONE CAR IN ONE CATEGORY: SPEED OR SHOW, NOT BOTH.

If the fastest car in a den is not available for some reason, the Pack may enter another car to give another scout the opportunity to attend the District Derby.
