2024 NCAC High Adventure Committee: Wind River Range, WY - Backpacking Trek Registration & Payment
Be part of a select crew on a challenging High Adventure backpacking trip to the Wyoming Wilderness. You will visit Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park and backpack in the Wind River Range, covering 50 miles over seven days. The level of difficulty of this trek is Rugged to Strenuous, with elevations ranging from 5,000 up to 10,000 ft. The High Adventure Committee (HAC) manages all trip logistics and oversees training and skills sessions to prepare you for this extraordinary High Adventure opportunity.
CREW SIZE: Minimum of 10 participants with a maximum of 20 participants. The crew must consist of a majority of youth participants. One Adult is needed for every three Youth; Adults will be required to drive a rental vehicle and must have a valid driver’s license and sufficient vehicle insurance coverage. The Youth will elect a Crew Leader, who will nominate one or two Assistants.
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: This trip is for Scouts 14 years of age and older. All participants (including Adults) must have recent backpacking overnight experience to a High Adventure Base or with their unit. In addition, all participants must successfully complete three mandatory crew shakedown hikes with loaded backpacks, scheduled for the spring months of 2024 (more details will be provided).
CAMPING GEAR: Each participant provides their own backpack, tent, sleeping system, cooking/cleaning gear, clothing and accessories. All gear will be inspected for meeting quality and safety standards as determined by the Lead Adult Advisor.
REGISTRATION: Please follow these instructions to register and make online payments for all crew members. This trek is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is being offered as a Provisional Crew made up of individuals from several units. If this crew is full, you may register on the wait list. Each crew member must complete the registration process and pay the $250 initial deposit by February 01, 2024. Family members may register together. Keep your Registration Number to re-enter the system for future payments.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There are several mandatory requirements that all participants must commit to in order to participate on this expedition. These include three hikes, three crew meetings and (for Adults) two training courses. No exceptions. If you cannot fulfill these obligations, do not register and pay the deposit.
TRAVEL: NCAC arranges group air travel for the crew, departing Saturday, June 22, 2024, and returning Sunday, June 30, 2024. There will be no possibility for individuals to travel independently. Ground transportation to and from the destination airport will be by rental vehicles, driven by the Adult crew members.
PAYMENT: All payments are made thru this online registration system. The cost of $1,430 includes round trip airfare, trail food, meals enroute, rental vehicles, gas, and camping fees. As mentioned above, a deposit of $250 is required before February 01, 2024. See the table below for the payment schedule:

Payments may be made with a credit card or an e-check. A 3% surcharge applies to all credit/debit card payments; e-check transactions are free. Late fees may apply to payments received after the published due date deadlines.
TRAINING: Several types of training are required or are provided to participants.
MEDICAL: All participants must submit a complete and current (within 12 months) BSA Annual Health & Medical Record (Parts A, B & C) to Lead Adult Advisor Joe McMullin at the first crew meeting on February 3, 2024. These records will be confidentially reviewed (all medical conditions, allergies and medications) to ensure physical and mental fitness for this trip. Forms must be renewed as needed to remain valid thru the length of the trip.
NOTE: The HAC will carefully review all applicants for this trip and reserves the right to adjust the participants based on medical conditions, physical and mental fitness and level of High Adventure experience.
