2022 Fall Goshen Volunteer Work Weekend

Event Details

Hello Goshen Volunteers!

Thank you for registering for the Fall Goshen Volunteer Work Weekend, scheduled October 28-30, 2022. I am looking forward to a great weekend to help prepare the Goshen Scout Reservation for the 2023 season. Below are a few notes to consider as you prepare for this coming weekend:

Arrival and Check In

Check-in will occur from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Friday, October 28th in Gray’s Lodge at Camp Post There will be no dinner provided Friday night, so please eat before you arrive, or bring food with you! As this is an official BSA event, a completed BSA medical form (parts A and B) must be brought to check in. Medical forms can be found here: https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/ahmr/

Food (Updated)

Saturday Breakfast – Sunday Breakfast will be provided. All dietary restrictions and concerns should be reported as part of the registration process. Sunday breakfast will be an informal, continental breakfast set up. Please note that prior registration information stated that participants would need to cook for themselves, but this is no longer the case.

Water

Please note that there will be no running water available, aside from a spicket (potable) at the Ranger Station/Warehouse, due to the off-season maintenance schedule. Running water will not be available in Gray’s Lodge, cabins, or campsites. Water will be distributed and available in coolers in main areas, such as Gray’s Lodge, as well as all work project areas. Upon request, coolers can be borrowed and stored in campsites.

Sleeping Arrangements

Participants are encouraged to camp in campsites at Camp Olmsted but may also stay in the “bunkroom” at Gray’s Lodge. Participants should bring a tent and any other necessary camping equipment for the weekend, including appropriate clothing, sleeping bags, blankets, etc. for the forecasted weather.

Work Projects and Priorities

Anticipated projects for this weekend include:

  • Brush clearing in overgrown areas
  • Split rail fence repair and board replacement (Olmsted Aquatics, Olmsted Shooting Sports, Marriott OJ Corral, Marriott Aquatics, Bowman TBD)
  • Move Olmsted Chapel Hill brush (completed last GSAA Work Weekend) to designated area

Please note that projects are subject to change due to weather, size of workforce, etc.

If you have personal tools that may assist with the projects listed above, we encourage you to bring them this weekend!
