Jamboree on the Trail, or JOTT, is an annual day for the World Scout Movement to hike together. All Scouts, whatever their age and wherever they may be in the world, are invited to participate in whatever way they can. In their own way, everyone will be hiking the same direction: towards a better future through Scouting.

Check In Starting Line Location: Jones Point Park, Parking Lot, Jones Point Dr., Alexandria VA 23242
Directly across from Restrooms

Check In Arrival Time: 7:15 A.M. All units and scouts must be back at the starting point by 5:30 P.M.

Each group of Scouts must be accompanied by an Adult Leader. Adult leaders joining their scouts on the hike can leave their vehicle in the parking lot. Each registered unit must provide one volunteer to work the stations on the trail. The volunteers will work in 4 hour shifts at most.

The Dens, Patrols, Troops and Crews will be staged at the starting line and released to start the hike in 5 minute intervals. The first Patrols, Troops, Crews will be put on the trail starting at 7:30 AM.

The Troop, Patrols, Crews that are planning on doing the full 20 + miles (~40K) must be back at the Jones Point Parking Lot by 5:30 PM. This equates to an average pace of 2 miles/hour. Those Patrols, Troops, Crews planning on doing the full 20 miles will be given priority at the starting line.

What you must bring:

  • Each hiker must bring their own personal water supply for the planned length of hike that they will be doing.
  • Clothing and outerwear suitable for the forecasted weather – Rain, wind, sunshine, etc. As a minimum wear a scout cap to identify yourselves as Scouts.
  • Trail snacks
  • For Troops, Patrols and Crews planning on being on the trail for more than 10 miles you must pack a lunch.
  • Wear shoes suitable for walking/hiking on a paved trail.
  • Sunscreen and bug repellent as needed
  • Personal first aid kit

There will be Check In stations along the trail. The Check In Stations will have emergency water supplies and a limited supply of energy bars with basic first aid supplies. The stations will be at the following locations:

  • Riverside Park
  • Ft Hunt Park
  • Collingwood Drive
  • Belle Haven Park
  • Jones Point Park

The hike will have a History Scavenger Hunt component for those units that what to participate. Each units successfully completing the Hunt will be presented with an Award.

If your unit is planning a shorter hike the Leaders will be responsible for arranging transportation at the pick up point.
