Paddlemaking class

Event Details

In this two-day (weekend) class, each participant will turn a milled ash plank into a custom-fit, custom-tuned, weight-balanced canoe paddle.  The style we'll be making is optimized for canoe-tripping on flatwater: this is the same style used at the NCAC Canoe Clinic, and is similar to the Nashwaak Cruiser and Badger Tripper (badgerpaddles.com/tripper/) paddles.

After the paddle is completed, the participant will need to apply a marine spar varnish finish before use.  Several weekday evenings will be made available at the Camp Snyder wood shop to do this, or the participant can apply a finish at home.

The class fee covers the wood, shop rental, supplies, and use (but not purchase) of the necessary tools.

The class will be held in Michael's Woodshop at Camp William B. Snyder.  For first time visitors, please review the Camp Map for the location of and driving route to Michael's Woodshop once you arrive at camp.
