Scouting For Food Collection Day!

Saturday

8:30AM to 1PM

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1201 Courthouse Rd, Stafford, VA 22554 If You Got a Tag… Fill a Bag! Aquia District Scouting units will be distributing door tag reminders on the weekend of November 7 for the Annual Scouting For Food event on Saturday, November 14 to stock local food pantries. Scouts will return to homes where tags were distributed to collect donations of non-perishables from doorsteps and driveways.

The collection of donations for Scouting For Food is held annually on the second Saturday in November. This is open to all BSA Scouts in Stafford County and MCB Quantico. As a National Capital Area Council BSA event, Scouts "Do a Good Turn" to help Stafford County and Dumfries food pantries stock their shelves, not just for the holidays, but for the months beyond. Items in demand include canned proteins such as tuna and chicken; nut butters; meat-based soups, stews and chili; canned vegetables, beans and fruits; healthy cereals and oatmeal; rice and whole grain pastas; condiments; and hygiene products such soap, toothpaste, diapers, toilet paper and tissues.

A few scouting units are asking for donations at store-fronts. However, many units are going door-to-door and will collect donations on Saturday November 14 starting at 8:30 AM and take them to be weighed at designated pantry collection points. Donations will go to local pantries run by the Scout units’ charter organizations such as Kate Waller Barrett Elementary, Andrew Chapel UMC, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and Hartwood Presbyterian Church or other designated pantries such as ACT’s Shelter in Dumfries, St. Matthias UMC, St. William of York Catholic Church and S.E.R.V.E.

Residents who do not receive a door tag may drop off donations on Saturday November 14, by noon, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church or Hartwood Presbyterian Church collection points. If you cannot make this time and would still like to help or your donation was missed, please contact the Scouting For Food Coordinator at aquiadistrictscoutingforfood@yahoo.com to make arrangements for a pick up by our scouts.

Addresses for Saturday Collection Points are as follows:

St. Peter’s Lutheran Church 1201 Courthouse Rd, Stafford, VA 22554

Hartwood Presbyterian Church 50 Hartwood Church Rd, Fredericksburg, VA 22406

Please report the number of scouts, the number of youth and the number of adults that participated in the event this year. For units that have signed up to participate and are bringing their collections to their charter organization or other designated pantry, please make sure you record the collection weight and the number of scouts, the number of youth and the number of adults that participated and provide this information to the Aquia SFF District Coordinator Laura Lee Curran.
