This course provides certification for both Cub Scout and Boy Scout leaders outdoor training requirements.  Certification is awarded for both BALOO and IOLS upon completion of class and prerequisites.

It is designed to teach you the skills Scouts need and to help enhance your job performance though the use of the "Patrol Method”. 

When:
October 26-27, 2019

Cost:
$40.00 (Fee covers; materials, awards and site fee)

Schedule:
7AM Saturday to 4 PM Sunday (weekend camping)

Camping:
You will be camping Saturday night.  See the equipment section below for a packing list. The entire weekend is outdoors!!!

Who May Attend:

Must be 18 years or older (for IOLS) or 21 years or older (for BALOO) and a registered adult Scout. Youth Protection must be current.

This event is being hosted by White Oak District.  Attendance is open to all districts.

Class size limit is 36

Uniforming:
This is a uniformed event, if you have one wear it.

Required Paperwork:
Complete and bring the Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A and B only)

Important: To receive credit for the course and a training card, you must complete all prerequisites prior to the class.

Claiming Credit for Prerequisites (BALOO & IOLS):
Print all training certificates and/or print out entire training record.

Youth Protection Training
Online BALOO Training v2 (modules SCO-280-283) - about 1 hour)
Hazardous Weather Training (about 30 minutes)

How to Access Prerequisites/Water Classes:
To access the online classes - go to my.scouting.org and log on.
- Click on BSA Learn Center (right side red block) - That opens a new tab
- Scroll down to Expanded Learning
     - Click on BALOO for the Online BALOO modules
     - Click on Program Safety for the last 3 classes (Safe Swim, Safety Afloat and Hazardous Weather)
- For each of the two - click on Add Plan (Expect a green success banner)
- Click on the class title
- Select Launch Course for each desired module above
- When finished with each course wait for the music to finish
- To get to the next course hit the back arrow - top right side
KEY: When finished with each course wait for the music to finish and wait to see the Scouting U , Learning, Challenge, Lead Image before you hit the back arrow to take the next course.

Claiming Credit for Prerequisites (BALOO):
When completed all 8 BALOO online modules:
At the bottom of the page where all 8 courses are listed you will see on the bottom right side View Certificate. Click on it and print your certificate
and bring it to the outdoor training to show that you have taken the prerequisite(Part 1). Without this prerequisite you can not be fully trained. You will also need this for the back ground of the outdoor (Part 2) course.

Program:

All participants will be divided into patrols.  The "Senior Patrol Leader" (SPL) will form the patrols approximately two weeks prior to the event. Patrol members will be responsible for communicating with one another, coordinating equipment and  meal planning.

Course is organized as a collection of small classes - each focused on an outdoor topic.  Classes will be attended by both Cub Scout and Boy Scout adults.

For Scoutmasters and Webelos Leaders: It is highly recommended that you take Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster (S24) (online or in person) training before you attend this course. To be completely trained as a Scout leader you must take Scoutmaster Leader Specific Leader Training (S24) (in person or online).

Camping

Equipment (Personal):
Shelter: tent and ground tarp
Sleep system:  sleeping bag or blankets, pad, pillow?  If you don’t have a sleeping pad (foam or inflatable) a few extra blankets can be folded to make a pad.
Flashlight
Rain gear
Closed toe shoes - no sandals
Warm clothes (check the weather forecast)
Minimal toiletries. (Tooth brush etc)
Pen/paper
Eating utensils (plate or bowl, knife/fork/spoon, cup)
Water bottle
Chair (very important for your comfort!)

Equipment (Patrol):

Rain fly
Stove
Cook & cleanup gear
Food

What if I don’t know how to set up my tent?
No worries.  Bring it (make sure you have all the parts) and we will teach you how to pitch it.
