The NCAC - Aquia District Boy Scouts of America Flag retirement ceremony is meant to honor the American flag, promote flag etiquette, and reemphasize its importance and symbolism. Our American flag is a symbol of our democracy and we want to make sure that our communities understand the importance of not only the (American) flag retirement and what it means, but also the importance of the tradition.
This is a tremendous honor for those who serve in uniform, for what they sacrifice to maintain our freedom, and the flag represents that. it represents our service, our sacrifice, the freedoms that we have as our independence.
* This event is open to any scouting district and open to the public. So tell family friends and neighbors so that they too can experience this wonderful tradition.
Instructions: Collect old weathered, ripped, torn and tattered American flags from families, neighbors, government offices, schools, military cemeteries, local businesses etc.
Bring the flags collected and gather at 5:30 pm to dissect the flags. Scissors will be needed. You can save time and dissect flags prior to the ceremony. First cut out the field (blue). Next cut the stripes (red/white). Please cut out grommets (they will not burn).
Patches will be available for $5.00 at event.Save the date. More information to come.
