Colonial Training: Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) & Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

 

This fall training course will be a combined IOLS and Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)
 

WHO:  Cub Scouters, WEBELOS Leaders, Arrow of Light Leaders, Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Crew Advisors, Associate Crew Advisors who need to complete their program-specific training requirements, as well as those other adult volunteers who want to help with the outdoor program activities  and basic advancement skills.
 
WHAT:  Instruction designed to hone outdoor skills, following a mix of classroom and experiential formats using the Den and Patrol methods focusing on safety & risk, unit structure, event planning, camping, Scout craft skills, Outdoor Ethics, and outdoor cooking. Partially fulfills the training requirements for Cub Scouters, WEBELOS Leaders, Arrow of Light Leaders, Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Venture Crew Advisor, and Assistant Venture Crew Advisor positions.
 
WHEN: Classroom Session – Wednesday, October 10, 2018
7:30pm - 9:30pm; Aldersgate United Methodist Church
1301 Collingwood Rd, Alexandria, VA 22308

Weekend Session – starts at 5:00 pm, Friday, November 2 and runs through 5:00 pm, November 3 at Gunston Hall, Lorton VA

Course Prerequisites: To complete the IOLS/BALOO training, there are some prerequisites that are necessary before the classroom session on October 10. Those requirements can be found here online.
 
Bring to the classroom session:  your favorite compass and your wear Field Uniform ("Class-A") if you have one.  The Overnight packing list will be provided during the Classroom Session
 
COURSE FEE:  The fee for the course registration is $8.00 to cover the venue rental and program costs. Participants must bring $20.00 in cash (or a blank check) to cover the food cost for the Friday evening cracker barrel, Saturday breakfast, and Saturday Lunch. The actual cost shall be based on the final purchase costs and the number of course participants.
