2019 Chain Bridge District Camporee

Event Details

Chain Bridge District Fall Camporee:  "The Wonders of Flight!"

This year's Camporee theme is “The Wonders of Flight!”  Scouts attending the Camporee will be able to complete the Aviation & Space Exploration merit badges, as well as:

  • Experience a cool old-timey air show with restored/replica historic aircraft – watch barnstorming, wing-walking, parachute jumping and aerobatics (weather permitting).  Hear the roar of the engines, smell the oil, crane your neck up up up …. Look at that, what that guy’s doin’ up there!?
  • Have the opportunity to build and launch your own solid fuel powered rocket!
  • Earn a spot for your troop to visit Lockheed Martin’s flight simulators!
  • Have a chance to see (and maybe fly) a drone! (equipment permitting)
  • Take a ride in a biplane or Piper Cub! (weather permitting/limited number of slots (for an extra fee))
  • Enjoy a wonderful campfire program and fellowship.

The camporee will be held at the Flying Circus Aerodrome located 14 miles SE of Warrenton, VA, just off Route 17 at 5114 Ritchie Road (Route 644) in Bealeton, VA.

All units that register for the Camporee this year will also get a special benefit: a visit, scheduled as a Troop after the event, to Lockheed Martin’s flight simulators.  (Details at the event on how you do this!)

Putting on an event of this nature and size is quite demanding from a staffing perspective.  Therefore, every unit is expected to contribute at least one adult on Friday evening for registration and on Saturday to help run program (more are welcome).

IMPORTANT!  For your scouts to be eligible to take a ride in a plane, in addition to the separate cash activity fee paid on site on Saturday morning of the Camporee, there are very specific (and non-negotiable) BSA requirements that MUST BE COMPLETED EXACTLY. Each unit who has a scout who desires to fly in a plane at the Camporee must complete page 1 of the attached Flying Plan Checklist (with signatures) (ONE PER UNIT).  Additionally, there must be a fully completed activity waiver FOR EVERY INDIVIDUAL SCOUT who desires to fly attached to the Flying Plan checklist. These documents must be provided in hard copy with wet signatures as a package no later than October 10, 2019 to Joe Mazel, Camporee Director at Roundtable.  Additionally, to facilitate aircraft and pilot scheduling, participating units need to ensure they include their good faith estimate on the hard copy Event Registration Form on page 14 of the Program Guide, and email it to scoutmastertroop164@gmail.com as soon as possible.  In the event there are limited spots, I will prioritize units - first come, first served.

Please read and follow the instructions in the Program Guide for the event!

$25 per person

Register today! We look forward to seeing you there!!
