Aquatics Supervision Training: Paddle Craft Safety (PCS) 

 


What: This is the hands-on, in/on water training for supervisors of any scouting swimming or boating activity. It covers the skills needed to meet Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat policies applied at the unit level. This is the training referenced in BSA’s Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat guidelines. The training consists of a classroom portion.

The Paddlecraft Safety training consists of a classroom portion and in-water portion.

Add-on Class - Canoeing Merit Badge Counselor Training

Prerequisites:  (available online at https://my.scouting.org/)

 A) Safety Afloat
 B) Current BSA physical Part A & B

The Paddle Craft Safety course has 4 major components:
1) BSA Swim test
2) Classroom session
3) Written test
4) The Paddlecraft Safety training consists of a classroom portion and in-water portion.

Who: Older youth (min. 15 years old) and adult leaders. 
 

Where: 

Classroom sessions are offered at Camp William B. Snyder (CWBS) 

Afternoon water sessions will be held at the Silver Lake Recreation Area located approximately 1 mile west of Camp William B Snyder."

 

Date: The course is May 20, 2017 

Registration Deadline: May 17, 2017

Max registrations - 16

 

Time: 

9 am - 12 pm Classroom session for Paddle craft Safety;

1 pm - 4 pm In water sessions for Paddlecraft Safety check-outs.

Both Sessions are required for Paddle Craft Safety (PCS) 

 

For Only Canoeing Merit Badge Counselor

1 pm - 4 pm In water sessions Canoeing Merit Badge Counselor check-outs.
 

Fee:

Option 1) $55.00  ($25.00 for PCS / With PCS manual add, $30.00)

Option 2) $25.00 for PCS only (if you already have the book)

Option 3) $15.00 for Merit Badge counselor portion of the course (Second Session only: 1 pm - 4 pm In water)

If you already have the required text, Aquatics Supervision, then the class will be $25.
If you are only coming to the Merit Badge counselor portion of the course, the cost will be $15
