Building Momentum 2026 Game Design MB Workshop
Event Details

April 6, 2026 (Easter Monday): Game Design MB
Scouts will learn how to design, test, and improve games while gaining a deeper understanding of what makes a game fun and challenging. Through hands-on activities, brainstorming, and playtesting, Scouts will discover the art and science of game creation.
Activities & Learning:
- Learn about the history of games and the different types of games (board games, card games, role-playing games, video games, etc.).
- Understand the elements of game design, including objectives, resources, rules, conflict, and outcomes.
- Explore how games teach skills, reinforce values, and bring people together.
- Work individually or in teams to design and prototype an original game.
- Playtest games with other Scouts, gather feedback, and refine design choices.
- Compare game design to careers in creative design, software development, and engineering.
Merit Badge Requirements Covered:
- Define the different types of games and discuss game history.
- Explain the elements of game design and how they work together.
- Analyze an existing game and discuss its design features.
- Develop an original game idea, create rules, and build a prototype.
- Playtest the game, collect feedback, and explain how you would improve it.
- Explore career opportunities in game design and how skills can transfer to other fields.
By the end of the day, Scouts will have completed all requirements for the Game Design Merit Badge and will take home their own playable game prototype.
