Building Momentum 2026 Welding MB Workshop

February 16, 2026 (Presidents Day): Welding MB
Scouts will spend a full day in Building Momentum’s fabrication shop learning the skills, safety, and science of welding while completing all requirements for the Welding Merit Badge. With guidance from our professional instructors, Scouts will get hands-on experience using welding equipment in a safe, structured environment.
Activities & Learning:
- Learn about the history of welding and how it is used in construction, manufacturing, and engineering today.
- Review and practice shop safety rules, protective gear, and safe handling of welding equipment.
- Create several practice welds and complete a finished welding project to take home.
- Compare welding to other methods of joining metals, such as riveting, soldering, and adhesives.
- Discuss career opportunities in welding and how welding applies to engineering, design, and the trades.
Merit Badge Requirements Covered:
- Explain what welding is and describe different welding processes.
- Understand and demonstrate safety precautions in a welding environment.
- Perform several welding exercises, including beads and fillet welds.
- Complete a welded project that meets merit badge standards.
- Discuss the advantages, limitations, and career paths in welding.
By the end of the day, Scouts will have completed all requirements for the Welding Merit Badge, gained valuable hands-on shop experience, and built confidence working with professional welding tools.
