Portable Climbing Wall (Portable Challenge Structure Facilitator) – In-person Portion of Training
Course Description: Dedicated training for those staffing Day Camp and council events offering portable climbing. This training covers safety procedures and operation of mobile climbing activities. Must be 21+ to serve as Climb Master (Supervisor). Trained individuals ages 16–20 may serve as Qualified Assistants. Certification is valid for one (1) year from completion date and must be renewed annually.
Who: Registered adults (18+) and youth (16+)
Where: Akridge Scout Reservation
When: March 21, 2026 9 am - 11 am
Check-in: 8:45am
Special Instructions for Completing Portable Climbing Wall Training
- The online portion of the Portable Climbing Wall training MUST be completed prior to attending the in-person, hands-on portion. Complete Scouting America’s Climb on Safely course on my.Scouting.org.
- Complete the in-person, hands-on training for the Portable Climbing Wall at Akridge.
- This course is offered free of charge. In exchange, we expect that participants who successfully complete the course will volunteer to help supervise/assist with the portable climbing wall during their certification period when able.
What to Bring:
- Water bottle
- Comfortable clothes suitable for wearing a harness
- Closed-toe shoes suitable for climbing, such as athletic shoes (no Crocs, leather soles, or sandals). Climbing shoes are not needed.
- Personal climbing gear is NOT recommended.
- Pencil and paper for taking notes.
