Swim & Water Rescue provides leaders with information and in-the-water skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to swimming emergencies during unit swimming activities. It also expands awareness instruction provided by Safe Swim Defense training to include basic water rescue skills.
Swim & Water Rescue training is not a lifeguard certification.
Swim & Water Rescue training prepares adult leaders to meet the requirements of qualified supervision for a unit swim activity.
Successful completion of the Swimming and Water Rescue training authorizes unit leaders to conduct the standard swim classification test.
Who can attend?
The training is open to any registered adult leader and Scout or Venturer who is age 15 or older.
Cost: $30
The event fee includes lunch, training materials and supplies, and a certification patch.
Health Forms: You must bring a copy of your Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A and B) to the training.
Swimming Requirement: You must be able to pass the requirements for a Scouting America swim check. In addition to completing the Scouting America swim check, you will participate in in-water rescue techniques.
Meals: Lunch is provided. Please bring your own snack and water bottle.
Note: The amount of time we spend in the water may increase the likelihood of feeling cool. So please bring more than one towel and a fleece-type jacket to use lakeside if you need to warm up. Also, bring a change of dry clothing and sunscreen.
