WHO MAY ATTEND: A registered Adult BSA Leader. This course track (both parts) certifies you as an NRA Instructor. The Instructor certification allows you to help run pistol events for older Scouts BSA, Sea Scouts, and Venturers at Council level programs.
NRA COURSE INFORMATION:
1) Basics of Pistol Shooting - Part I
Sunday September 21st
This course is a REQUIRED prerequisite to the December Instructor Course and you MUST attend. This is the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course and it will be run as if you have never touched a gun before. This is to show you how you should run the course. Then you come back in early December to teach the course yourself
NOTE: The shooting qualification is very difficult for most pistol shooters. We have intentionally budgeted months between Basic and Instructor for you to practice. You have THREE attempts at the qualifier in the Instructor class and if you cannot hit the mark, you will not be certified.
2) BIT and NRA Pistol Instructor - Part II
We will offer BIT on Saturday (Basic Instructor Training). Once that is complete, we will transition into Pistol Instructor Training and continue with that until we meet all objectives on Sunday.
For The Candidate, the time is a blend of instructional lecture, instructor role preparation and practical presentation coupled with range skill demonstrations. There will be multiple opportunities for the instructor candidates to practice these newly gained skills and role play as students for course mates then contribute to performance feedback sessions.
Budget Planning:
COST: $120 for Instructor course.
