The Old North State Council's Cub Scout fishing derby is a fun and exciting way for us to get hooked on the new Scouting year.
The event is open to all NEW, existing, and future Cub Scouts and their families.
Date: Saturday, September 21; 8:00 am to 1:00 pm
- You may arrive at a time that works best for your family.
- You may depart at a time that works best for your family.
- Awards will be presented during each hour.
TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
- 8:00 am Check-in opens and Fishing Begins (There will be a station for new fishermen)
- 9:00 am Award Session 1
- 10:00 am Award Session 2
- 11:00 am Award Session 3
- 12:00 pm Award Session 4
- 12:15 pm Lunch service begins
- 1:00 pm Event closes
Lunch Details:
- Hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be served for lunch
- Due to the nature of this event, we will be unable to meet special dietary needs
- If a member of your group has a special dietary need, please bring a lunch that meets their nutritional needs

Details:
- Experienced anglers can spend the morning fishing with their family and friends.
- New fishermen can learn to fish from certified angling instructors.
- You may bring your rods and reels and bait.
- Some rods and reels and bait will be available for Scouts and families to use.
- Awards will be given each hour for the largest fish, smallest fish, most interesting catch, most interesting bait, and most fish caught.
LEADERSHIP & SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS
- All Cub Scouts and Cub Scout-aged youth must be under the constant and direct supervision of a parent/guardian or two adult leaders who are registered with the Boy Scouts of America, with a completed background check, and unexpired youth protection training.
PATCHES
- The first 100 Cub Scouts at each fishing derby location are guaranteed a fishing derby patch.
FISHING LICENSE
- North Carolina law requires all people 16 years old and older to hold a valid fishing license.
- Owning a valid fishing license is not required for this event as it is covered by a North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission fishing license waiver as an educational event for inexperienced fishermen and youth fishermen.
- People over 16 years old, without their own valid fishing license, will need to sign-in on the NCWRC fishing license waiver document.
