The Cherokee’s Future Leaders (CFL) program seeks to develop a Scout's ability to teach and lead others

CFL participants spend a week shadowing camp staff while undergoing professional development on instruction, classroom management, and what it means to be a highly effective staff member

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Be a registered member of the Scouting America;
  2. Be at least 14-years-old during your entire CFL week;
  3. Have experience in unit leadership;
  4. Have the endorsement of your unit leader;
  5. Be in good physical health;
  6. Submit a BSA Health Form including Parts A, B & C;
  7. Possess the ability and knowledge to teach other Scouts Scouting skills;
  8. Participate in a brief interview with the CFL Coordinator, Program Director or Camp Director.  

We have space for 10 CFL participants each week.

Our CFL program is co-ed.

DATES AVAILABLE:

  • The CFL program runs from Sunday afternoon through Friday evening.
  • Plan to drop off your CFL at 1:00 pm on Sunday afternoon of camp.
  • Plam to pick up your CFL at 8:00 pm on Friday evening of camp.
  • The CFL program is available for 7 weeks
    1. June 15 - 21
    2. June 22 - 28
    3. June 29 - July 5
    4. July 6 - 12
    5. July 13 - 19
    6. July 20 - 26
    7. July 27 - August 2
  • Some people want to do multiple CFL weeks.  Please sign up for one week. If things go well, and we have space, you may be invited to return for a second week. 

ADULT SUPERVISION OF CFLs:

  • CFL participants camp in Ossippee Campsite and the provisional Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster provide regular supervision and support to the CFL Scouts.
  • The CFL/Training Commissioner provides direct oversight to the CFL program. The CFLs will meet with him daily.
  • During the day, the CFL are assigned one or two program areas to observe and support. The program area directors provide supervision during this time. 

COST:

  • The cost is $75 per person.
  • The fee offsets CLF food costs for the week.

RECOGNITION:

  • We will recognize the CFLs at the Friday night closing flag ceremony.
  • Flag starts at 7:00 pm on Friday.
  • CFLs will receive a special patch and a t-shirt.
  • Family members are welcome to participate in the closing flag ceremony.
