Thank you for your interest in working at Cherokee Scout Reservation this summer.
We are excited to learn more about you and how you might best fit into our spirited, dynamic team.

Employment Preconditions
As preconditions of employment, Old North State Council, Scouting America camp staff applicants must agree to:
- Become a registered member of the Scouting America,
- Be at least 15 years old by the starting date of summer camp (June 7, 2025)
- Have and wear appropriate uniforms for summer camp and comply with the Old North State Councils’ standards of personal appearance,
- Provide a current medical examination, before camp, using Scouting America's Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A, B, & C), and
- Complete all required pre-camp training.
How to Apply
There are three parts of the Scouting America summer camp employment process:
1) Complete the camp staff application.
2) For new applicants, submit at least two Summer Camp Reference Forms. Ask your references to submit their recommendation using the Google Form below.
3) Schedule and complete a job interview with Camp Director Bud Harrelson.

- Each new camp staff applicant must submit two camp staff reference forms.
- Share this link with two people who can provide you with a good employment reference.

- This might be your current employer, teacher, Scout leader, youth group leader, etc.
- It should not be a parent or family member.
- For members of Scouting America, one of your references should be your unit leader (Scoutmaster, Crew Advisor, Ship Skiller, Post Advisor).
SCHEDULE AN INTERVIEW WITH CAMP LEADERSHIP
- A completed camp staff application must be submitted before you schedule an interview with camp leadership.
- For first-time applicants, reference forms must also be received.
- We will hold camp staff interviews on the following dates and locations:
- Option 1
- Saturday, December 14, 2024
- 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Old North State Council Service Center, 1405 Westover Terrace, Greensboro, NC
- Option 2:
- December 28, 2024 (during winter camp)
- 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
- Cherokee Scout Reservation, 3296 Boy Scout Camp Road, Yanceyville, NC
- Option 3:
- December 29, 2024 (during winter camp)
- 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
- Cherokee Scout Reservation, 3296 Boy Scout Camp Road, Yanceyville, NC
- Option 4:
- Saturday, January 4, 2025
- 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
- Old North State Council Service Center, 1405 Westover Terrace, Greensboro, NC
- Option 1
- Interviews typically last 15-30 minutes
- Email bud.harrelson@scouting.org to schedule an appointment.
- Include two or three options that work best for you in your initial email to eliminate back-and-forth
- For all applicants under the age of 18, Scouting America Barriers to Abuse requires you to include another adult in your email exchanges with Camp Director Bud Harrelson.
- We recommend you include your parents in our email exchanges to meet this safety expectation.
