Uwharrie District Klondike Trek

Event Details

Uwharrie District
Klondike Trek
January 23, 2021
Woodfield West

Just before the turn of the last century, gold prospectors traveled the sub-zero reaches of Alaska in search of gold. They camped out in all kinds of winter weather, and therefore needed adequate skills to survive. The Uwharrie District has incorporated these skills in the 2021 Klondike Trek. The point of a Klondike Trek is to make Scouts use their knowledge and experience, put their Scouting skills to work in the field, demonstrate teamwork and Scout spirit, and have fun outdoors on winter days.

All Troops and Crews are invited. This is an opportunity to show your Scouting skills and
experience the best of the winter season. Activities will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and will consist of patrol activities hosted throughout Woodfield West.

Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place patrols will be awarded in the following the competitions:

* Crevasse Crossing           * Emergency Fire Building

* First Aid Challenge           * Winter Knot Tying

* Slingshot Supper Shoot    * Ice Rescue

* Sled Salvage                  * Map and Compass Use

* Tree Identification           * Panning for Gold

Each patrol will be given a list of supplies needed upon registration to complete the activities.  They will be provided a rustic pack in which to their gear.  Only gear listed can be used during the activities.

Some afternoon time will be used to provide service at the camp .

Cost: $8 per Scout includes COVID-safe activities, program
           supplies & patch.

           individually due to COVID-prevention guidelines.
